A pair of Pip Hold shoes are hand made to last.
We recommend always using a shoe horn when putting your shoes on, as this protects the counter from damage, keeping the shoe both structurally sound and looking good.
We also recommend using shoe trees in leather shoes to maintain the shape of the shoe.
In the absence of a shoe tree, filling the shoe with tissue paper will help to keep the shoe's shape and will help to absorb moisture from the shoe after being worn.
Shoe trees are not recommended for softer shoes - such as suede or fabric, as a shoe tree can be quite strong and may, if used over a period of time, stretch or damage the upper.
Soles and heel tips of your bespoke, specialty fitting or limited edition shoes must be kept in good condition. Replace both well before they wear completely down. Once the tip or sole is completely worn irreparable damage may be caused to the shoe, making them not only look unattractive but also no longer nice to wear. Make sure you go to a reputable shoe repairer. It's a small investment to make on such a special pair of shoes!
Below are some tips that may assist you in caring for your Pip Hold bespoke, specialty fitting and limited edition hand made shoes. These are intended to be general tips and we recommend that you research your own specific shoe circumstance so as to achieve the best result for your shoe.
Leather is a natural fibre that needs your love, care and attention to keep it looking good and feeling great. With the proper maintenance your leather shoes will last you a lifetime.
Suede is the result of 'sanding' the underside of the hide creating a soft and supple velvety feeling material. Nubuck is created the same way but is from the outside of the hide.
Both are natural fibres and like leather susceptible to damage as the temperature and moisture levels it is exposed to changes. With proper care your suede or nubuck shoes will last you the best part of a lifetime.
Patent leather is leather which has had a layer of lacquer or acrylic applied during the final stages of the tanning process. Its highly glossy finish makes it somewhat naturally weatherproof, but also prone to showing every little scuff and mark.
With a patent leather shoe, prevention is better than cure. Deep scratches or different coloured scuff marks are very difficult to remove completely, so take care when wearing your patent leather shoes.
Pip Hold Shoes recommends storing your patent leather shoes (particularly light coloured ones) away from other shoes and polishing with a good quality patent leather shoe cleaner regularly
Fabric shoes are delicate in nature. Caring for your fabric shoes is fairly similar to caring for your clothing fabric. It's important to know what kind of fabric your shoes are made from so you know how best to maintain them.
