Waterproof

Store your leather shoes in a well ventilated room to prevent mould, and make sure you give your shoes at least 24 hours between wears to reduce moisture retention and maintain the integrity of the fibres - thus keeping them looking and feeling good.

Waterproof

Waterproofing leather shoes will protect against moisture. Choose a good quality waterproofing product and follow the instructions on the package. Make sure you test the product on a discreet and less visible area of the shoe. Some leathers may change colour slightly with application.

Soles and heel tips must be kept in good condition.  Replace both well before they wear completely down. Once the tip or sole is completely worn irreparable damage may be caused to the shoe, making them not only look unattractive, but also no longer nice to wear.

Make sure you go to a reputable shoe repairer. It's a small investment to make on such a special pair of shoes!

Stains can be softened by rubbing with a leather eraser. If your leather soles get wet - treat them no differently to the upper, wipe excess water off quickly and dry slowly (see next section). Treat the sole with a good quality leather conditioner to ensure the leather doesn't crack.

Dirty

DRY SLOWLY.  Wipe shoes with a soft cloth to remove excess moisture. Allow shoes to dry in a room temperature environment with good (but not direct) airflow.

Filling the shoe (but not to full capacity to prevent stretching) with a neutral coloured paper towel (or the like) will draw moisture out of the upper enabling quicker drying.

Resist the temptation to dry with direct heat (eg: hairdryer). Leather which has been dried too quickly may harden and crease, damaging the fibres and weakening or cracking the leather. It may also change the appearance and fit of the shoe.

Once shoes have dried, polish with good quality polish of your choosing to replenish any lost oils.

Dirty

Wipe the affected area with a damp (not wet) cloth.  NO SOAP.

Once shoe is clean polish with good quality wax based polish to replenish shine and provide a superficial protective layer against water, salt and dirt.
